Happy Monday everyone! It’s definitely been a wild ride the past week for me, but I’m trying my hardest to get back up to speed and into my routine again. I recently had two very big life changes, and if you know me, you won’t be surprised. I started a new job, and I definitely love it and I love the people I’m surrounded with. It’s such a welcome change from what I was doing before and I can tell I’ll be here for a long time. I’m finally doing what I love + there’s a Starbucks in the lobby, so I can successfully fulfill all my cravings at any time of day. Second, I’ve been moving for the past week and that’s been….. interesting. I’m convinced that moving is one of humanity’s worst experiences. Okay, not the worst, but it’s definitely on the top 25 list. Not to mention I have crazy separation anxiety so leaving any place I’ve been at for more than 6 months is hard for me. That being said, it’s a good opportunity to recreate my living space and remove all the clutter around me for sure (look out for more home decor-esque posts).
Now, let’s dive in to the good stuff – the summer essentials you need for your work or school makeup bag. If you’re going to be somewhere other than home for the majority of your day AND it’s hot outside, you’re going to need all the touch up tools. Don’t worry, I got you covered. One fun fact I didn’t mention on my Instagram post (shown below) is that this picture was taken on the way to work whilst sitting in traffic (you gotta do what you gotta do, I have no shame). Disclaimer: I’m a HUGE fan of the dewy, glowy look, but lately I’ve been going full-on matte. I feel like my makeup stays on longer and just looks more put together for work. Keeping that in mind, read on!
Named after the L’Oreal Infallible Foundation (another favorite of mine), this concealer is JUST AS GOOD. In fact, it’s a dupe for Tarte’s Shape Tape, and if you like the thick consistency of Shape Tape, then you’ll love this one. I usually put this on in the morning before the work day and rarely ever have to reapply because it’s so good.
I never thought of myself as a setting powder type of person, but here I am. Maybelline has consistently blown me away with its FitMe line, and I am in love with this powder. Around 1-2pm, I usually have to blot this powder under my eyes and around my nose. It makes my makeup look fresh again, like I just applied it. High-end quality for a drugstore price? Yes, please.
If you’re a consistent reader of my blog, then you know this is the one lipstick I can’t live without. I just ran out of ANOTHER tube, and that should tell you how great it is. It’s the perfect shade of pink for olive-toned skin, and goes with basically all of my outfits. Kylie’s lipstick formula is a little drying though, so if you have chapped lips, put a lip balm on underneath.
This is another elite drugstore product that will never get old. This is a dupe for the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara, and it’s perfect for work or school. Better than Sex is a little bit more dramatic, but this one gives you the perfect amount of lift and volume. Apply it in the middle of the workday when your eyes need a little bit more oomph.
THIS. THIS. THIS. I have thin eyebrows, which means I can’t afford to invest in higher-end eyebrow pencils because I’ll go through them like crazy. Last year, I discovered Elf’s TWO DOLLAR eyebrow pencil, and it changed my life. I usually buy two at once, that’s how good it is. The neutral brown tone is perfect – not too dark and not too light. The pen’s tip is slightly thick, but it doesn’t usually get in the way for me. I actually like it better than the ABH Brow Wiz… yup, I said it.
Getting a sample perfume set from Sephora is one of the greatest hacks ever. If you buy the set, you get a bunch of different samples, and you get a full size perfume for free with their certificate inside. My favorite perfume, Atelier Cologne, is normally $85, but with this certificate, I got it for $20 cheaper. That’s besides the point – the other samples in the box are perfect for throwing in your different purses so you’re always stocked with essential scents.
Again, if you’re a consistent reader of my blog, you’ve hopefully seen my post on the three best homemade facial toners. *Surprise, surprise* I am obsessed with the rosewater toner. It’s so easy to make and lasts a very long time, too. If you need a midday glow or to freshen up your makeup with some hydration, carry some rosewater toner with you. I usually just buy those mini spray bottles from Target and throw it in my purse. Give me everything rose, please.
Let me just start this off by saying that this is the best scent in the entire world. No one can describe it, but it’s just one of the most unique, fruity and sweet scents ever. I’ve gone through one whole mini tub of this cream, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it from random people passing by. It’s absolutely perfect for summer, and great for hydrating your skin throughout the day.
Hope you guys have enjoyed this post! Lately I’ve been using a lot more drugstore products – I just feel like they’re becoming just as good as higher-end products, and saving money is always a plus 😉
