Hello, my fellow dry-haired friends. If you have dry hair, you know how much of a struggle it is to maintain it and make sure that it looks as hydrated as possible at all times. If you’ve colored or dyed your hair, then it’s an even bigger struggle because adding any type of chemical to your hair makes it even worse. I’ve compiled some home remedies + amazing products in this post for you all to try out, and these are all tried and true methods for me because I’ve had dry hair MY WHOLE LIFE.
*Disclaimer: I was gifted some products by Briogeo that are mentioned in this post, but ALL OPINIONS ARE PURELY MY OWN.
DIY EGG WHITE HAIR MASK
This is one of my absolute favorite masks to apply on my hair if I have some time before I need to wash my hair. It takes 5 minutes to whip up, and it works wonders for hair texture and quality. Eggs contain protein that can enhance shine and softness of hair, and banana will help maintain elasticity of the hair. Olive oil is also amazing for hair because it will help strengthen and soften the hair. All of these ingredients together = heaven for your strands.
What you’ll need:
1 teaspoon olive oil
A blender (or you can try to mix it in vigorously)
Blend all the ingredients together and apply to your hair from roots to ends. Keep it on for 20-30 mins and then wash your hair as normal!
COCONUT OIL OVERNIGHT MASK
This one is a no-brainer, I know, especially for all my desis out there. We live and breathe this stuff, and for good reason. I feel like I can have any kind of problem, and I just need to apply coconut oil on it to make it go away. For this mask, all you need to do is apply it from roots to ends before you sleep, and wash it off when you wake up. Out of everything on this list, this is probably the first thing you should try!
So a bit of background – I normally go for the volumizing shampoos because I have thin hair, but I think it’s always a great idea to have a hydrating shampoo in your shower shelf. The first time I used it, I noticed a significant improvement in the frizz and dryness in my hair, and I was so pleasantly surprised! It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve started using it, and I use it about once or twice a week (I wash my hair 3-4 times a week for reference).
This. Is. A. Holy. Grail. If you’re in search of an incredible hair mask that will actually work for you and doesn’t have any weird ingredients, this is the one for you. I always tell my friends that skincare and haircare should be on your list of investments, because it’s important to provide your body with nourishment and the right ingredients. I had heard such great things about this mask even before I used it, so I was super excited. The first time I used it, I saw a HUGE change in the way my hair looked and felt. My ends normally have crazy split ends and are a pain to style on second and third day hair. After using this, my hair felt so incredibly soft that I was in awe. GO GET YOUR HANDS ON THIS.
This is basically a leave-in version of the deep conditioning mask. If you don’t have a lot of time to condition in-shower and need to run out the door, spritz this in your hair and you’re good. It does essentially the same things that their other Don’t Despair, Repair! products do, but it’s an express version of the results. Win win.
AVOCADO HAIR MASK
Listen, we all love avos……. so does your hair. This mask is easy and effective, and your hair will thank you for DAYS.
What you’ll need:
1 ripe avocado
2 tablespoons of honey
1/2 cup of milk
You can either mash up the avocado and simply mix all the ingredients, or you can use a blender. If you use a blender, it’ll be easier to get rid of the lumps. Apply from roots to ends, and keep it on for 25-30 minutes.
This is a product I’ve used for over a year now and I swear by it. I’ve always LOVED Joico products – their entire K-PAK line is absolutely incredible and makes my hair texture improve in just one use. This Color Therapy Luster Lock hair mask always leaves me speechless. I always tend to take this one on vacations to tropical places because hello humidity…. but it always saves me from that dry ocean air frizz. It’s great for a quick or deep condition, and will leave your hair feeling smooth as ever.
This was my first experience trying any hair products from Lush, and I fell in love with it immediately. I got this as a sample at first, and I loved it so much that I went in the next day and bought a full size version. This helps my hair look and feel shiny and smooth, and the smell is absolutely divine (it smells like vanilla, which is my favorite). I’ve always noticed that whenever I use this and then curl or blow dry my hair, the style always holds longer and looks 10x better. Try to get a sample next time you’re in Lush!
If you love wearing your hair straight, this product is for you. Whenever I use it, my hair looks sleek and shiny and full. I love to blow dry after applying this cream, and it really helps elongate the style for the next few days! Another great perk is that it’s a heat protective cream, so you don’t need to layer on any more heat protectors! Also, I trust Kiehl’s with my life. They never do anything wrong.
I’ve normally strayed away from using oils on dry hair, because my hair tends to get oily after 2 days… but this one is incredible. I usually use this after I curl my hair to give it a little bounce and shine, and it helps my hair stay hydrated at the same time. I spritz it twice into my hands to dilute it a little and then scrunch it into my hair. It’s perfect for 2nd day hair so that if your hair does get greasy after using it, you can wash it easily the next day!
Andddd that’s it for my top 10! I’m always on the lookout for new products and remedies to combat my dry hair struggles, so definitely be on the lookout for more favorites — I usually always post my favs on my IG Stories so tune in <3
